JULIUS CAESAR

AR Denarius Brockage (3.84gm). Rome, moneyer P. Sepullius Macer or C. Maridianus, February-March 44 B.C.

Wreathed and veiled head of Caesar right / Same, reversed and incuse. Cr. 480/13-14 or 480/16.

Extremely Rare. A brockage is a coin that shows its own obverse type, in incuse, on the reverse. This mint error resulted when a coin adhered to the reverse die after striking, so that the next planchet received an impression of the obverse type instead of its proper reverse type.
Possibly the only known example on a portrait denarius of Julius Caesar.
