HAND AND FOREARM
Egypt, early Ptolemaic period, circa 300 B.C.
Wood, Length: 14 cm.
The finely carved
hand is extended as if in supplication, with fine details of the
nails and cuticles clearly visible. The lower end has a tenon for
attachment to a statuette, presumably representing a goddess. Traces
of gesso and pigment remain.
